Douglas Fir
We selected the Douglas Fir as one of the four varieties of tree produced on our farm for several reasons:
The needles of the Douglas fir are dark green to blue green in color and are soft to the touch. They radiate out in all directions from the branch, which is soft and slightly drooped- the needles have a sweet fragrance when crushed. The sharply pointed buds give the tree a traditional look and make it a popular selection for holiday decorating. The trees are harvested at approximately 7-10 years of age and are lovely for lightweight ornaments.
Blue Spruce
The Blue Spruce is another of the most popular varieties of Christmas Tree grown at Stonerow Farm. The unusual and attractive color and stiff, well spaced branches make this tree a traditional holiday favorite. The stiff branches are able to support heavy ornaments and lights.
Needles are 1-1 ½ inches long on the lower branches and shorter up top. They are 4 sided and have a very sharp point at the tip. Needles are generally dull bluish-gray to silver and give off a resinous odor when crushed.
Cannan Fir
The Cannan Fir bears similarity to the balsam and Fraser Trees. It is a newcomer to the Christmas Tree market. Cannan (pronounced “Ka-naan”. This tree is growing in popularity with our guests-we’d love to introduce you to this tree when you visit our farm.
Concolor Fir
Concolor Fir is also known as white fir- and is native to the western US. It produces a spire-like crown and straight trunk.
Needles are small and narrow. The upper branches have needles that are generally thicker and more curved than those on lower branches. Younger trees have a bluish-green color which dulls to green with age.
